Determining Elements of Anti-Fungal Immunity in BURN Patients
Burn

Scientific justification Invasive fungal diseases (IFDs) pose a substantial threat, especially in immunocompromised patients, necessitating urgent research focus and therapeutic advancements. The IFI-BURN study, involving a cohort of patients with severe burn injury (n=276), revealed a significant IFD incidence of 31.6% and underscored their critical impact on morbidity and mortality. While fungi are present everywhere, for moulds within the environment and for yeasts within our microbiota, why certain patients develop IFDs and others do not, remains poorly understood. The answer most likely resides in the impact of the burn injury on the immune response, loss of skin barrier and particular predisposing immune phenotype of patients. The immune system is composed of both cellular and humoral components, but the latter is far less studied in antifungal immunity although they exert multiple antimicrobial mechanisms.

Patient Voice in the Treatment of Low-grade Gliomas: Use of Patient-reported Outcomes, Vorasidenib and Radiotherapy Compared
Glioma Glioma of Brain Low Grade Glioma of Brain Low Grade Gliomas +1

The study aims to assess the direct patient-reported perception (PROs) of individuals affected by IDH-mutant, grade 2 gliomas undergoing radiotherapy or pharmacological treatment with vorasidenib. To evaluate quality of life, perception of treatment-related symptoms, and anxiety levels during therapy by comparing patients receiving radiotherapy with those receiving pharmacological treatment with vorasidenib. The control group will consist of patients with IDH-mutant, grade 2 gliomas who are under clinical and radiological follow-up only. To assess the feasibility of using PROMs in routine clinical practice. To analyze patient-reported critical issues in order to qualitatively improve care pathways.

"Pseudo-scanner" MRI Sequences for the Detection of Bone Lesions in Multiple Myeloma
Multiple Myeloma Bone Disease

Recent work has confirmed the diagnostic performance of pseudo-CT sequences for detecting osteolytic lesions. Their integration into whole body MRI (WB MRI) could transform the diagnostic approach to MM, by allowing a combined assessment of bone marrow involvement, tissue viability and osteolysis, during a single non-irradiating imaging examination. Since the preliminary work mentioned above, optimizations have been made to the pseudo-CT sequences, including the addition of deep learning (correcting noise in the images) and the correction of chemical shift artifact (linked to the coexistence of hydrated tissue and fatty tissue), which carry real hope of improving their diagnostic potential and accuracy.

Iron Absorption in The Low Oxygen Exposure and Weight Status (LOWS) Study
Obesity (Disorder)

Declines in iron status are common in those with obesity and may be due to obesity-related chronic inflammation; however, the effects of reducing inflammation following diet-induced weight loss on iron metabolism are poorly understood. Low environmental oxygen exposure increases dietary iron absorption and availability to supply iron for erythropoiesis but has not yet been tested in the context of weight loss. This study is designed to investigate diet-induced weight loss (inflammation reduction) and overnight low oxygen exposure (erythropoiesis stimulating agent) as strategies to improve dietary iron absorption in obesity.
